Horsey extremely happy with day two

Mombasa-born Peter Horsey, the African Pirelli Star Driver nomination, returned to the host city of the 2010 WRC Rally Finland, Jyvaskyla, at the end of an action packed second day with a very big grin on his face, having successfully tackled 11 high speed special stages at the wheel of his Ralliart Italy run Mitsubishi Evo X.

Horsey and co-driver Calvin Cooledge survived a small scare when they slid into a ditch on the very first corner of the first test of the day, escaping with just bruised egos, to set a number of very quick times as the rally progressed. With the majority of stages repeated during the day Peter was able to compare his times and reported a substantial improvement on every single stage. 4X4 rally heroes prepared for success

Placed third in the Military Class of the recently held ‘Help for Heroes’ 4×4 European Rally was the Team Green Howard SWB Land Rover 90, driven by Captain Ed Pawsey and navigator James Kelly, with assistance from Will Pawsey, Captain Pawsey’s brother.

Their third place was a considerable achievement on this arduous 2,000 mile, 10-day rally, as they were not only competing against some extremely competitive machines in their class but were up against a total entry of over 45 serious off-road event teams. Stobart Spotlight: Day One Report

Britain’s Matthew Wilson and Finland’s Juha Kankkunen lead the way for the Stobart M-Sport Ford Rally Team as they lie in sixth and seventh position at the end of Neste Oil Rally Finland’s opening eleven stages.

Henning Solberg/Ilka Minor were on flying form as they entered Friday’s afternoon loop, producing the fastest split times in their Ford Focus RS WRC for the majority of SS6. Solberg lost time manipulating a corner at the end of the stage but the Norwegian driver still finished the stage third-fastest, just 1.2 seconds slower than his brother Petter. New leader in WRC Rally Finland after SS5

After the days opening loop of four stages, it is Petter Solberg who leads the WRC field after Mikko Hirvonen suffered a BIG cras on SS4 to end his rally. the crew are reportedly okay.

Jari-Matti Latvala now flies the flag for the factory Ford team, and is lying in a very strong second.

Dani Sordo is also on a charge, making the most of his favourable running order to be in third place and only 5.1sec behind Petter Solberg.

2-Latvala +1.3
3-Sordo +5.1
4-Ogier +11.8
5-Loeb +18.9
6-Henning +23.0.

Horsey honoured to open Rally Finland

Young Kenyan rallying talent Peter Horsey was left honoured and emotional when he and co-driver Calvin Cooledge opened proceedings for the sixtieth anniversary of the world famous Neste Oil Rally Finland, ending the opening day with no dramas and pleased to have had the opportunity to run first on the road on such a prestigious event.
