Several Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship drivers are taking part in this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed which takes place from this Thursday (30th June) at the historic venue near Chichester in West Sussex.
The forest rally stage will echo to the sound of both four and two wheel drive cars from the championship, headed up by BRC front-runner Jonny Greer in his Škoda Fabia S2000. Fresh from his first foray into the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in Belgium last weekend, Jonny, who lies third in the British series, is there under the Škoda UK banner and will be rubbing shoulders with their official works driver Andreas Mikkelsen. While many motorsport series are approaching their mid-summer break, it’s the opposite for MML Sports, as it prepares for four rallies in the next three weeks. And it will be buoyed by the performance of Jasper van der Heuvel, who despite finishing 17th on last weekend’s GEKO Ypres Rally, frequently split the huge field of Super 2000 cars in his R4 Mitsubishi Lancer EvoX, using the MML Sports R4 kit.
Following Jari Ketomaa’s debut in the MML Sports R4 on last month’s Talsi Rally, van der Heuvel was the next driver to compete in a car equipped with the MML Sports kit of parts to bring it up to full R4 specification. And he didn’t disappoint: On stages where he had a clean run, his times were within the top 15 frequently, peaking at sixth fastest on stage 13 – an impressive feat considering an entry of 30 Super 2000 cars. Kris Princen has claimed his first victory in the 2011 IRC 2WD Cup with a determined display on the GEKO Ypres Rally, which finished in north-west Belgium on Saturday night. His victory puts him equal second in the drivers’ standings, six points behind Jean-Michel Raoux, who was not competing on the demanding asphalt event.
