Sordo closes gap to Ogier while French fans soak up the battle

Six stages will decide the podium of the WRC Rallye de France today. Day Three sees Sebastien Ogier (Citroën Total World Rally Team) start with a 9.5sec advantage over Dani Sordo (MINI WRC Team) and 51.9sec over Petter Solberg (Petter Solberg World Rally Team).

After the first stage this morning, Sordo has eaten into Ogier’s lead to close it to 6.4sec with Solberg keeping steady at some 50sec adrift.

Solberg has stated that he will move up the leader board yet as he feels the pace at the front will lead to mistakes from one of the leaders. Whether he is right, we are in for a brilliant five stages to go.

In the SWRC category, Ott Tanak (Ford Fiesta S2000) is dominant. He has only to finish today to claim yet another Class victory in the SWRC, as he enjoys a lead of 02min 35sec over Eyvind Brynildsen (Skoda Fabia S2000).

The WRC Academy has seen its rally flip on its head when Craig Breen disappeared off its leader board. As this support series runs only two of the three days of the WRC events, this left the leader board looking like this:
01) Y. Lemes – 03h 05m 19.2s
02) A. Fisher + 42.3s
03) J. Suarez + 01m 22.8s
04) S. Wiegand + 07m 04.0s
05) M. Taylor + 18m 46.8s

Australia’s Molly Taylor put on a strong performance to hassle the men in the Class, but the limelight was stolen by Yeray Lemes as he claimed the Class win.

Overall Standings after SS18:
01) S. Ogier – 02h 45m 22.8s
