With just four days to go before the start of the 2011 East African Classic Safari Rally Samira Khan and Anita Irwin have announced that their ex Michele Mouton Ford Escort Mk 1 is ready to rally. At a launch party at Que Pasa Bar and Restaurant in Karen, Nairobi, Samira also confirmed that Kenya Airways would be the title sponsor of Rally Queens on the forthcoming nine day marathon event.
Samira also announced additional sponsorship from Wladoil, Suntrek Safaris, Bosch, Travellers Beach Hotel, Dalbit Oil and Lubricants, ALS, High Ratio, Que Pasa, the Kenya Rally Team, Bosch Kenya, TropicAir and a number of private well wishers. With 20% of all the funds raised going directly to the Red Cross Society of Kenya this project is certainly raising the good will of all Kenyans. Run by Nakuru based MMSport, and with both Samira and Anita being Kenyan citizens this is truly a Kenyan rally team.
Samira: “I’m so excited to think that in less than one week we will be tackling the toughest rally in the world! I cannot thank all of our supporters enough for their assistance and generosity. The rally car has undergone a massive re-build in preparation for nine grueling days and she looks positively stunning!”
The 2011 East African Safari Classic Rally begins from Mombasa on Saturday 20 November and will head to Amboseli, Arusha in Tanzania, and then on to the Great Rift Valley before returning to the Coast of Kenya on the 28th of November for the ceremonial finish.
