Harry Hunt will begin his 2012 campaign when he makes his competitive debut in a Ford Fiesta S2000 on Saturday’s Team GDF Wyedean Forest Rally.
After winning both the IRC 2WD Cup and the Rookie section of the Junior World Rally Championship in his first season of international competition in 2010, Harry is looking to hone his driving skills to the next level over the course of 2012.
The Wyedean Forest Rally marks the opening round of the BTRDA Rally Series and with 140 crews entering this year’s event, the Gloucestershire-based gravel rally will provide a competitive benchmark for the 23-year-old Londoner.
Robbie Durant will once more join Hunt in the co-driver’s seat and the pair are set to test the award-winning Fiesta S2000 this week. Hunt, who is contesting 10 rounds of this year’s IRC, will be looking to replicate his strong performance on last year’s Wyedean Rally where he finished 10th overall.
“I can’t wait to start our schedule for 2012 and it’s great to begin with a rally set on home turf,” said an excited Hunt, whose outing in the Fiesta is a one-off. He previously contested the Wyedean event last year in a Group N Mitsubishi Lancer, finishing 10th overall on his four-wheel drive debut.
“There’s quite a few World Rally Cars that have entered the Wyedean so it’s going to be a really tough fight for the top spots. The Fiesta S2000 will be a big change from my Citroën [DS3 R3T] but the extra seat time will help us prepare for the rest of the year,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2012 season, Harry is feeling optimistic: “Wyedean will be a great opportunity to test a different car but I hope it will also mark the beginning of my most successful season in rallying to date.
“My aim this year is to win some rallies and I’d like to reclaim the IRC 2WD Cup drivers’ title. There’s some tough competition in the 2WD category this year but I’m ready for a challenge.”
