Dani Sordo celebrated his debut victory in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge last weekend by praising the level of competition in the series, the fan-friendly format and the live television coverage on Eurosport.
Sordo, driving a MINI John Cooper Works S2000, won Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse following close battles with IRC regulars Giandomenico Basso, Jan Kopecký and Andreas Mikkelsen.
“To be honest it was really good fun,” said Sordo. “There are lot of drivers in the IRC who are really fast, especially on Tarmac. I enjoy a lot and these battles are very good for television, it’s good for the spectators and mostly it’s good for the drivers.”
What were your feelings after winning in Corsica?
DS: “I was very happy but it was really hard because I was fighting a lot. It’s an important rally to win and the drivers in the IRC are very strong.”
How hard was it to keep your focus when two rivals Basso and Mikkelsen hit trouble?
DS: “You had to keep pushing because if you are pushing then you are concentrating to the maximum. If you are too relaxed you could end up losing a lot of time.”
Will you do more rounds of the IRC in the future?
DS: “Really I don’t know. I do another championship but I like to drive so why not? But, for the moment, there is nothing to do.”
