Battle Lines Drawn As WRC 2 PRO Rivals Head To Portugal

The new WRC 2 Pro category for professional drivers in factory-supported R5 cars is quickly developing into a four-way battle for the inaugural title, as drivers head to this weekend’s 53rd Vodafone Rally of Portugal.

Monte-Carlo category winner Gus Greensmith leads the series by just five points after six rounds, but the young Englishman’s reward for a solid start to the season has been a debut seat in the third official M-Sport Ford World Rally Team Fiesta WRC alongside Elfyn Evans and Teemu Suninen this weekend. TEASER: The French are showing off their 2019 WRC livery for their C3 WRC machines…

RO18CITR01OGIER169

Driven by Sébastien Ogier – Julien Ingrassia and Esapekka Lappi – Janne Ferm, both C3 WRCs entered in next year’s WRC – a fourteen-round season beginning on the stages of the world famous Rallye Monte-Carlo (22-27 January) and concluding in Australia (14-17 November) will feature brand-new livery.

The new look will also celebrate the brand’s 100thanniversary. The end of 2018 marks a temporary conclusion for the working relationship between Citroën Racing and Abu Dhabi Racing. A successful relationship that began in 2013 and produced nine rally wins (three in 2013, one in 2015, two in 2016, two in 2017 and one in 2018) in the world rally championship. The team would like to take this opportunity to thank Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi for these last five years, a rewarding experience for all involved based on exchanging and sharing commonly-held values.

The end of this season equally provides Citroën with an opportunity to offer its heartfelt thanks to Chris Patterson, Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi’s co-driver on his selected annual appearances in the WRC, as well as to Craig Breen, Scott Martin, Mads Østberg, Torstein Eriksen, and the inseparable duo Sébastien Loeb – Daniel Elena, who all did us proud in competing on behalf of the team in 2018. Although the latter crew were actively involved in creating some of Citroën’s finest moments in rallying, all were highly appreciated by the team for their human and sporting qualities and we wish them the very best for the rest of the respective careers.

A new chapter therefore begins for Citroën Total WRT in 2019, as two new crews particularly determined to aim high join the team. A new chapter then, the first instalment of which will be the unveiling of the 2019 livery of the C3 WRC at the WRC season presentation, which will be held on 12 January 2019 at Birmingham’s Autosport International Show. The countdown to the new season will by then be very much underway, and it won’t be long before fans see the French team’s two WRCs – on which further upgrades will be introduced during the off-season – spring back into competitive action!

Subaru celebrates STI’s 30th Anniversary

The WRC’s history is steeped in the Subaru badge. National and Club rallyists dedicate their careers to this iconic rally machine, and so do we. Here’s a great video in tribute of this monster machine that claimed three World Rally Championship titles and 47 top-flight victories…
